{"id":16,"date":"2011-03-03T21:35:06","date_gmt":"2011-03-04T02:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.livingwaterscc.net\/lwblog\/?p=16"},"modified":"2011-03-03T21:37:49","modified_gmt":"2011-03-04T02:37:49","slug":"adventures-in-it-information-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.livingwaterscc.net\/lwblog\/2011\/03\/03\/adventures-in-it-information-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Adventures In IT (Information Technology)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"posterous_autopost\">\n<div class=\"p_embed p_image_embed\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/posterous.com\/getfile\/files.posterous.com\/temp-2011-03-03\/jeqtfxroCewsdHjCjcbnsmenICpuybEhmEsamfIyJcdhssbmysBjeHexqwkw\/jim_screaming_with_laptop_-_small.jpg.scaled500.jpg\" alt=\"Jim_screaming_with_laptop_-_small\" width=\"400\" height=\"306\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"posterous_medium_quote\"><p><em>I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but  Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by  faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Galatians 2:20<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m one of those &#8220;tent-making&#8221; pastors.\u00a0 You know, the guys who work a full-time &#8220;secular&#8221; job in order to pay the bills.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not complaining.\u00a0 On the contrary, I&#8217;m very thankful that God has made a way for me to provide for my family by giving me a job I enjoy.\u00a0 Plus, I get to work closely each day with people who need to hear about Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve worked all of my adult life in computer technology (which is surprising considering that I entered college as a music education major).\u00a0 I enjoy the problem solving, but it can be frustrating.\u00a0 In fact, the picture attached to this post is me at about 2:00am during a network hardware upgrade.\u00a0 Pretty sad, huh?<\/p>\n<p>So as Christians, what impact should our faith have on our role as employees?\u00a0 In the next few weeks I&#8217;ll be writing a series of posts about this issue.\u00a0 What prompted this was something I read in an article from Tech Republic called, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.techrepublic.com\/blog\/10things\/10-reasons-for-quitting-it\/2316\" target=\"_blank\">10 Reasons For Quitting IT<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0 Under reason #4 the author wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"posterous_medium_quote\"><p><em>A long time ago, I was a positive, upbeat, people-loving kind of person.  But after being in the consulting business, I\u2019ve found myself getting  taken advantage of, used, abused, unpaid, underpaid, unappreciated, and  more. It\u2019s a constant fight to resist wanting to retreat to the woods  and off the grid.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When I read that I have to admit it pinched a bit.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve found myself feeling like that plenty of times.\u00a0 What God has been teaching me is that this is the natural response of my selfish human nature (i.e. &#8220;the flesh&#8221;).\u00a0 As a slave of Christ, I need to have a completely different response when people mistreat me.\u00a0 Jesus said,<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"posterous_medium_quote\"><p><em>\u201cYou have heard that it was said,  \u2018You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.\u2019 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good  to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and  persecute you,  that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun  rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the  unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?\u00a0 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others?
